If You're Afraid of the Dark Remember the Night Rainbow

dark.jpgIf You're Afraid of the Dark Remember the Night Rainbow is one of my favorite books from my childhood, which I still enjoy reading to my son today. The magical illustrations and whimsical writing of Cooper Edens were mesmerizing as a child. I remember looking over the illustrations abundant with butterflies, rainbows, stars, nature, and flowers, and wonder about how I could do such magical things.

With each illustration comes a poetic sentence, that remind me of Buddhist koans. "If night falls... use stars for streetlights" and "If you have butterflies in your stomach... ask them into your heart" are two of the many mystical inspirations that accompany the illustrations.

I recommend this book for any child that likes to wonder and any adult who needs to remember the magic of childhood. I still have this book on my bookshelf and love admiring the illustrations and simple uplifting words.
